SP-I Lab’s Report on Hurricane Beryl

Interested in comparing Hurricane Beryl with the Derecho Storm?

This project presents reconnaissance data collected in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall on the Texas coast near Matagorda as Category 1 hurricane and hit the Houston area around 4 a.m. CDT on Monday, July 8, 2024. This dataset consists of images and videos that captured various types of damage caused by Beryl, including tree fallings, wind-induced damage to roofs, walls, windows, and erosion and scour caused by storm surge. For comparison purposes, the dataset also includes images of undamaged, newly constructed, for the most part, buildings. In reviewing the images from downtown Houston, the reader is informed that windows covered with plywood, blackboards, or metal sheets are associated with damage caused by the Derecho, while windows damaged by Beryl had not yet been covered or repaired at the time of this field survey.
