PhD Student Positions
Positions may be available in the areas of fluid-structure interaction, marine energy, or concrete/masonry structures. Interested students are advised to review our research and outreach activities, publications, and presentations to explore how their interests may fit in our educational mission.
Desired background of applicants:
An undergraduate/graduate degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Structural, Coastal, or Hydraulic Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics, or Fluid-Structure Interaction. Previous experience with laboratory experiments and/or computational simulations is desired.
Grades and scores: There are no specific requirements for being accepted into our PhD program, except for those detailed by the Department. However, experience has shown that the following metrics are helpful indicators that the applicant has a strong potential for success:
1) Quantitative GRE score > 164;
2) BS or MS cumulative grades >17.0/20 or 7.5/10, depending on the grade scale;
3) Some research experience at BS- or MS-levels with a thesis, a conference, or a journal publication.
4) Some experience with peer-reviewed journal or conference paper writing in English.
PS. Preference is given to applicants who are holders of a GRE score.
